Cookie Policy – Health Compass

Last updated: 29 June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Health Compass (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains more generally how we handle personal data.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember things about your visit – like whether you’re logged in, or how you found us – and they help us understand how our website is used so we can improve it.

This policy also covers similar technologies that work in the same way, including web beacons/pixels, local storage, and SDKs used in any app we offer.

2. The law that applies

In Ireland, the use of cookies is governed primarily by the ePrivacy Regulations (S.I. No. 336 of 2011, as amended), which implement the EU ePrivacy Directive, together with the GDPR wherever a cookie involves personal data.

A note for the curious: the EU had been negotiating a new ePrivacy Regulation intended to eventually replace the 2011/2002 framework, but the European Commission formally withdrew that proposal in October 2025 after years without agreement. The Irish ePrivacy Regulations therefore remain the governing law for now, alongside ongoing EU “Digital Omnibus” proposals that may streamline GDPR/ePrivacy rules further – we’ll update this policy if and when those change anything that affects you.

Under this law:

  • We do not set non-essential cookies until you’ve given clear, informed consent.
  • Saying no must be just as easy as saying yes – our “Reject All” option is as prominent as “Accept All.”
  • We don’t use pre-ticked boxes or bury the reject option to nudge you toward “yes.”
  • You can withdraw your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it.
  • Strictly necessary cookies don’t require consent, but we still tell you about them here for transparency.

3. The cookies we use

Category What it does Consent required? Typical duration
Strictly necessary Lets the site function – e.g. security, load balancing, remembering your cookie preference, keeping you logged in if you have an account No Session – 1 year
Functional Remembers preferences like language or previously entered booking details to make your next visit smoother Yes Up to 1 year
Analytics Helps us understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, time on site) so we can improve it – usually pseudonymised/aggregated Yes Up to 2 years
Marketing & retargeting Used to show you (or stop showing you) ads for Health Compass on other websites, and to measure ad performance Yes Up to 2 years

[CONFIRM AND COMPLETE: list the specific cookies/tools actually in use – e.g. Google Analytics (_ga, _gid), Meta Pixel, your booking platform’s session cookie – with exact names, purposes, first/third-party status, and expiry. Most cookie consent platforms (Cookiebot, CookieYes, Osano, OneTrust) will scan your site and generate this table automatically and keep it up to date – worth using one rather than maintaining this by hand.]

We do not use cookies to make automated decisions that significantly affect you.

4. Managing your cookie preferences

On our website: Use the cookie banner that appears on your first visit, or the “Cookie Preferences” link [in our footer] at any time, to accept, reject, or customise non-essential cookies by category.

In your browser: Every major browser lets you view, block, or delete cookies:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies
  • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Blocking all cookies may mean some parts of our site won’t work properly.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) and similar signals: If your browser sends a recognised opt-out signal such as Global Privacy Control, we treat this as a valid request to opt you out of non-essential cookies and any sale or sharing of your personal information, without you needing to do anything further on our site. [CONFIRM technical implementation with your developer/CMP – detecting and honouring the Sec-GPC header needs to be configured on the site itself; this clause is only accurate once that’s switched on.]

5. Where this applies, wherever you’re visiting from

We apply the same high standard – opt-in consent for non-essential cookies – to everyone who visits our site, regardless of location. A few jurisdiction-specific notes:

European Union / EEA and Ireland: Governed by the ePrivacy Regulations and GDPR as described above.

United Kingdom: If you’re visiting from the UK, the same principles apply under the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), which closely mirror the EU framework.

United States: Several US states (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, and others) give residents the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, including via cookies used for targeted advertising, and require us to honour automated opt-out signals like GPC. We don’t sell personal data, and we honour GPC signals as described in Section 4.

Other jurisdictions (e.g. Canada, Brazil, and elsewhere): We apply the same opt-in-by-default approach to non-essential cookies for all visitors, which generally meets or exceeds the standard required under frameworks such as PIPEDA (Canada) or the LGPD (Brazil).

6. Third-party cookies

Some cookies are set by third parties whose services we use – for example, analytics or advertising providers. We don’t control these cookies directly; please check the relevant third party’s own privacy and cookie policy for details of what they do with the data.
